The North Star Academy Board of Directors provides strategic leadership to the school, operating as a policy maker and delegating the day-to-day management of the school to its Principal. The board is comprised of five individuals who share a common vision for the school.


David Eberly, Founding Board Member, President
Term expires: 2011
David has a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from the University of North Dakota. He has been employed in the public accounting profession for over 18 years, and is currently a partner at KPMG LLP. In this capacity he advises clients ranging from small owner-operated companies to large publicly held companies on a variety of accounting and regulatory matters related to their financial reporting activities. He has also served as a member of the finance committee of the Highlands Ranch Community Association. David and his wife live in Highlands Ranch, CO with their daughter.

Michael Nelson, Vice President
Term Expires: 2011

Michael has degrees in Business Economics and Public Recreation from South Dakota State University. With a career in the telecom industry, he is currently a lobbyist in the Government Affairs Department for Comcast. Previously he oversaw compliance for multiple areas of AT&T Broadband with a focus on collection and distribution of telephony-related data in support of activities including public policy initiatives, legal actions, legislation, marketing initiatives and reporting requirements. Prior to AT&T, Michael worked in provisioning and troubleshooting with Teleport Communications Group, analysis and reporting with AT&T Local Services Access Management and held management position with Level 3's Private Line Customer Network Operation Center. In addition Michael has spent time as a substitute teacher, a religious youth leader and has lead city recreation departments. Michael and his wife Lisa have four children and live in Parker, CO.

Ginger Barnhart, Treasurer

Ginger is an active community member involved in teaching and leading both children and adults.  As a licensed CPA, she began her accounting career with Deloitte & Touche, LLP in Kansas City.  Since then, she has worked in private industry and developed a second professional passion in Organizational Development.  She earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees in accounting and audit from the University of Kansas.  She is also certified in Organizational Development through Mountain States Employers Council.  Ginger has developed and managed mentoring, team building, training and strategic initiative programs for both Fortune 500 and start up companies.  As a full-time mother, she now seeks to invest in the children, families and community around her.  Ginger and her husband, Randy, live in Parker with their three young children.

Scott Chase, Board Member

Scott Chase is a native of Colorado and has served in a variety of executive positions in both the public and private sectors throughout his career. Scott has served as senior policy advisor, political advisor and spokesman for a variety of elected officials throughout the state. Scott currently is a partner in a government affairs and lobbying firm, Politicalworks, where he represents a variety of industries at the Colorado legislature. Scott has also held executive positions within numerous industries including telecommunications, healthcare and high-tech where he helped oversee government relations and public affairs. Scott grew up in Lakewood, Colorado and graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a Bachelor of Arts, Communications and Psychology. He is an alumnus of Leadership Denver and the Center for Creative Leadership and is a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for children. Scott and his wife Amy Chase live in Parker, CO with their three sons.   

Nigel Brownjohn, Board Member

Nigel was born, raised and educated in the UK. Having started his career with computers in his early teens, he has carved out a successful technology career over 30 years, in roles including; programming, consulting, sales and management. With more than 15 years in executive management for relatively small international software companies, Nigel has a lot of experience hiring, building and leading effective teams for both strategic and tactical tasks. Nigel has been on the board of various software companies since coming to the United States in 1999, and is currently on the advisory board for DeVry University, Colorado. 

The Brownjohn family has been at North Star from day one, and Nigel is committed to respecting and delivering on the founder's vision for the school. With both 5th and 2nd grade children in the school, he is also very committed to the development and success of the Middle School program. Nigel lives with his wife, Annette and children, Jade and Cole, near Parker, CO.
